Meet Hussein. Hussein is a thirty-five year old mother of three residing in the Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh, India. Hussein’s parents passed away when she was two and she was raised by a relative who often times left her alone. As an orphan, she faced many adversities. She often struggled to feed herself and would go days without eating. She got married at the young age of fifteen and was never educated. She used to make and sell flower garlands on the streets for money.

Hussein is now a talented tailor and a proud fair trade artisan. She said that she never used to think for herself and always did what other people told her to do. Now, she says she can think for herself and feels that she is worth something. When we asked her what she wants most in the world, she replied that all she wants is for her family to be able to continue to eat full meals everyday and for her children to never go to bed starving. Hussein believes in courage. She is a true survivor and it is our privilege to help Hussein and her family.
